ducks and spring

A few days ago, I unashamedly enjoyed the sight of two innocent ducks accidentally plowing through the fragile ice layer on my pond.

Yesterday, the ducks were actually being blown down the fully unfrozen pond by the wind, their tail feathers flying.

Stan the Heron’s combover is going completely inside in the wind.

They’re all basking in the sun out there like little beach goers.

It’s all awesome, because spring is coming.

want some new clothes?

So I am trying to get rid of some clothes here.  My closet is jam packed full of nice clothes that I never wear either because I decided I didn’t like them or because they don’t fit.  I also have some clothes from my working days that I just don’t want anymore.  Some are brand new with the tags still on, and all of them are name brand.  Almost all of the ones I’m selling have been worn less than five times.  Probably only two or three times for just a few hours.

Do you want to buy them from me?  I’m offering free shipping!

Check out my eBay listings here:  http://myworld.ebay.com/justpluckingdaisies I only listed a few things to start with but they started selling immediately so I’ll be putting up more… for example, I have a pair of Paige jeans with the tag still on just waiting to be photographed!!!  :)

I can also tell you that from surfing eBay for the same clothing items, my prices are spectacular.  Check them out!

Everything you ever wanted to know about me and Christmas

Here’s something a little different :).  Reposting this from Adorkable Annie’s blog! :)

  1. Does your family send Christmas cards?  Andy and I have every year, but we didn’t manage it this year.  I’m kind of sad about it.
  2. How soon do you start shopping?  October or so.  Anything I buy before then ends up getting given before Christmas!
  3. Who do you shop for?  Always every member of the family!  This year I didn’t manage much more than that, but usually I am a sucker for giving everyone I ever see regularly presents :).
  4. Do you put up a Christmas tree?  Can’t live without it.  But you know that :).
  5. If so, is it fake or real?  Fake.  I’m not a huge fan of real trees.  Prickly, smelly, flaky.  But I’m hoping to get a much better fake tree soon!
  6. Do you like tinsel?  I loved it on my Grandma’s tree – the old fashioned, lead-poison kind.  It was incredible.  But this papery stuff?  Meh.
  7. Do you use homemade or store bought ornaments?  Both!  Although I don’t think I’ve ever bought myself an ornament besides the colored balls to fill the inside of the tree and I don’t even use them anymore!
  8. Do you put Christmas lights outside your house?  I would if I had a house.
  9. Do you put lights on the tree?  Um, yeah?…
  10. How about popcorn and cranberries?  No, never.
  11. Is there a wreath hanging on your door?  I would hang one if I could figure out how.
  12. Do you celebrate it?  ???
  13. Do you hang up your stocking?  My Mom never hung our stockings, she just placed them under the tree.  Andy and I tacked ours up on either side of our Christmas tree in Philadelphia, because we had a big pretty window with pretty molding just perfect for tacking them up.  Sometimes Andy even put my presents in it while hanging.  But this year we didn’t do stockings.  There was nowhere to hang them!  :)
  14. Does your family read “Twas the night before Christmas?”  Dad does!
  15. Favorite Christmas movie?  Toss up between the Nativity Story, Home Alone 2, and Chevy Chase National Lampoon Christmas.
  16. Fave character from any Christmas movie?  Either Marv from HA2, or Eddie from National Lampoon…
  17. Favorite Christmas song?  Baby It’s Cold Outside !!!  Favorite carol is definitely Lo How a Rose E’er Blooming.
  18. Favorite Christmas memory?  It was horrible at the time, but when my sister Z and I got up and sorted all the presents for everyone before they got up, got dressed and everything, thinking it would be a fun surprise.  It wasn’t.
  19. Give or receive?  I love buying presents for people more than anything.  But I have to admit that since we got married I love when Andy gives me presents because it makes HIM so happy!
  20. Eggnog or cider?  Gah I can’t make that choice!!!
  21. Red or green?  Silver and gray and gold.
  22. Ham or turkey?  Turkey!
  23. Star or angel?  We always had an angel on my tree growing up, but Andy and I are in the market for a star.  A special star.  We haven’t found the perfect one yet, so our tree has been bare on top for a while now.
  24. White lights or colored?  White, although I did actually hang coloreds around the window in my dining room this year.
  25. Blinking lights or still?  Still.
  26. Were you naughty or nice this year?  I’d like to think I was nice but you’d have to ask my family.
  27. What do you want for Christmas this year?  I am getting EVERYTHING I wanted.
  28. When do you open your gifts?  Andy and I open our gifts for each other a few days in advance, before we leave town.  Then we open them with Andy’s family whenever we’re there.  My family is all Christmas Day.
  29. What’s the best gift you’ve ever gotten?  I don’t think I can choose.  My parents gave me a digital camera one year and it was awesome.  Andy gave me diamond earrings last year, AND the Harry Potter set.  And this year he got me a gorgeous leather purse.
  30. What’s the worst gift you’ve ever gotten?  I don’t ever think of gifts as bad.  Every gift is awesome.  Seriously.
  31. Who gives you the most gifts?  Used to be my parents.  Now it is definitely Andy.  He spoils me.
  32. Have you ever had a secret Santa?  Probably at some point but I don’t remember.
  33. Do you like wrapping gifts?  I do, actually.  I procrastinate, but I love it.  This year I got a million colors of ribbon from Costco and that made it extra fun!
  34. Do you put change in those red buckets?  There aren’t any around my area.
  35. Do you burn a yule log?  Is that special?  We always do a fire on Christmas morning.
  36. Can you name all the reindeer?  Yes, of course.
  37. Do you bake cookies?  I tried this year.  They turned out to be black pepper flavored hockey pucks.  But I usually do bake a few, just for fun – my Mom always has too many already!
  38. Have you ever seen your mommy kissing Santa Claus?  Yes, although my Dad never dressed up :).
  39. Have you ever gotten a kiss under the mistletoe?  I’ve never been around mistletoe!  So sad!
  40. Do you go caroling?  I have!  My fave is caroling at the nursing home.
  41. Do you drive around and look at the Christmas lights?  We always did growing up and it was so fun.
  42. Have you ever left Santa cookies?  Yes.
  43. Have you ever sat on Santa’s lap?  Probably at some point.
  44. Who do you celebrate Christmas with?  Christmas Day with my family.  We always see Andy’s family at some point during Christmas week, before or after.
  45. Where do you celebrate Christmas?  Pennsylvania, baby!
  46. Have you ever had a white Christmas?  Many times, and I love it :).
  47. What part of Christmas do you look most forward to?  The cream cheese ball my Mom makes on Christmas Eve.  No, trimming the tree.  No, Christmas Eve fires and movies.  No, Christmas breakfast.  No, Dad reading Luke every year after we open stockings.  No…
  48. Have you ever had your picture taken with Santa?  I’m sure.
  49. Does your family always take a picture at Christmas?  Christmas Eve, every year.
  50. What are you most thankful for this year?  My family :).

The Social Life of Ducks

My geese and ducks are my friends.  At least, I thought they were.  Until they decided to up and throw a big Christmas pool party without me.  I had to peer through my window stealing glances and pictures and feeling quite left out.

And then they had the audacity to just parade past my apartment, clucking away.

Christmas Ducks

Although I am suspicious that this couple may have just been sneaking off to find a dark closet somewhere.

Christmas Ducks

They really are beautiful, aren’t they?

Christmas Ducks

Fly free, little birdies!!!  :)

thankful moments

The rest of this week I’ll be sharing a moment, every day, that I’m thankful for.  Because I believe that no matter who or where or what we are, we can fight for one moment a day that we can just count our blessings.

I’m thankful for twilight in my hometown.  It’s always lovely.
